La presentación del libro Tinta y son: una mirada sobre literatura latinoamericana y música afrocaribeña, del profesor del Departamento de Humanidades, Alejandro Alzate Méndez. En esta, su primera obra, el autor explora el universo de la música popular del Caribe urbano así como ciertos aspectos de la cultura y la literatura latinoamericana contemporánea a partir de un variado cuerpo de autores. Reflexiones sobre procesos históricos diversos desde lo musical, lo político y lo artístico, constituyen la estructura del texto que se compone de doce ensayos divididos en dos secciones y un prólogo realizado por el escritor Umberto Valverde, biógrafo de Celia Cruz. Los textos contenidos en la primera parte (textos 1 al 5) exponen desde lo musical y lo literario algunas particularidades de la cultura latinoamericana contemporánea. La marginalidad, el exilio, el amor, el desamor, la fealdad, la belleza, la colonización en pos de la ambición económica, la opresión del subalterno, el capitalismo, la dictadura y la corrupción política ponen sobre la mesa aspectos del universo cultural sobre los cuales nuestros autores han reflexionado para mostrar procesos de la cotidianidad.Las obras narrativas aquí referenciadas tienen esa variedad que hace del arte literario una impugnación a la monotonía y al dominio de una sola tradición (bien sea artística, política o cultural). Borges decía que afortunadamente no nos debemos a una sola, lo cual cobra sentido si se asume el arte como una construcción social múltiple y en permanente evolución.

Sultan of Brunei Visits the Singapore Airshow

The Sultan of Brunei, His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam, made a visit to Singapore
Airshow 2012 today. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen received His Majesty, who
is also the Defence Minister, at the Changi Exhibition Centre and accompanied
him on a tour of the exhibits at the Airshow. Dr Ng also hosted His Majesty to
lunch, where they viewed the aerial display. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for
Defence and National Development Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman and Chief of Defence
Force Lieutenant-General Neo Kian Hong were also present at the lunch.

Singapore and Brunei enjoy a long history of close friendship and
cooperation. His Majesty's visit to Singapore underscores the excellent defence
ties between Singapore and Brunei, which is an important pillar of our bilateral
relationship. As part of his visit to Singapore, His Majesty will be meeting
with President Tony Tan and Mr Lee Kuan Yew later today at the Istana, and will
also be hosted to dinner by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
